Kuttu Chips | Buckwheat Flour Chips | Indian Fasting Recipe

Kuttu chips recipe | Buckwheat Flour Chips | Indian Fasting Recipe with step by step photos.

In India we have many occasions and festivals when we observe fast. That is of spiritual significance and to show devotion and dedication towards our deities.

For these fasting days very few vegetables and flours are allowed. Flours are made from cereals . There are 5 cereals that is allowed for fasting days in India. Those are buckwheat (kuttu), Water chestnut (singhara), Amaranth (rajgira), Samvat, quinoa.

All of these grains are gluten free and power house of nutrients. So while all fasting recipes are linked to our devotion these are also healthy for our body and mind. It helps to flush out our heavy gluten diet for a day or for some days in a week.

Why Kuttu is healthy for fasting days?

Kuttu or buckwheat flour is one of the most popular and vastly used cereal in India for fasting dishes.

This is rich in protein, phosphorous, magnesium and fibre.

It has low glycemic index and hence excellent for diabetic patients. It contains other vitamins and rich in antioxidants.

Flavonoid present in buckwheat lowers bad cholesterol and hence keeping bp low and heart healthy.

As this is gluten free it keeps our tummy light and properly digested keeping gut clear and happy.

I also like kuttu recipes than any other fasting recipes. And this kuttu chips is super easy and simple to make. At the same time the taste and that crunchy bites i love it.

I have tried the same chips with singhara flour also but it's different and it lacks that crunch what we get from kuttu flour.

Try my other favorite kuttu recipes kuttu tikki & kuttu pakode here.

This chips is way easier and quick than these two recipes. It just takes 5 minutes to make chips for 2 people.

    How to make Kuttu Chips?

Wash and clean potatoes. Peel the skin with peeler.

Slice thin potatoes and soak in cold water for 5 minutes. Remove from water and pat dry with paper napkin.

Now prepare batter of flour, salt and black pepper. Keep coating consistency of batter.

In the meanwhile heat oil in a kadai or pan.

Dip slice of potato into batter.

Drop batter coated potato slices into hot oil. Deep fry till it's dark in color and crisp outside.

Flip to cook all sides evenly. Remove from heat when done both sides equally.
