Cabbage Pakoda | Crispy Cabbage Fritters with step-by-step photos.

Pakoda or pakora or fritters are quite popular monsoon food. These are deep fried dumplings. Normally we make these pakoda or fritters with many ways and with different veggies.

These are crispy snack that goes well with hot ginger tea. So monsoon is the time when we actually crave for such fried snacks to accompany our tea.

This combination is famous as "chai pakoda" in many states of our country. This means some crispy crunchy bites of pakoda or fritters along with hot tea. Divinely combination in fact.

    cabbage pakoda

Cabbage pakoda or cabbage fritters are made from shredded cabbage. I have added sliced onion also. Making fritters are really easy and simple.

We just need to mix veggies with flour and spices. That's it. Then drop the batter mix to hot oil in smaller portions. Fry them till golden and crisp. Serve with ketchup or any dip of your choice.

How to make pakoda or fritters crispy?

Normally we make pakoda or fritters with chickpea flour or gram flour. But to make it extra crispy add some rice flour to the batter. Also don't add more flour. Add only to a sticking consistency. More flour will make fluffy and softer fritters (e.g. for koftas and kadhi pakora requirement).

Also while making batter instead of water use chilled water or aerated water. This will make the fritters crispy.

    How to make cabbage pakoda?

Take shredded cabbage in a mixing bowl. Add flour, salt, spices. Mix them well. Add little water and make a thick batter.

Whisk it well for 2 minutes. the batter should be of thicker consistency.

    preparing batter for pakoda

Heat oil in a deep frying pan/ kadai. Drop small portions in hot oil. Don't overcrowd the pan.

Make sure these are equally golden and crisp from all sides. Remove from oil and place on a paper napkin.
