Air Fryer Mushrooms
An air fryer is a new-age kitchen tool that works exactly in a similar technique to a convection oven but cooks food quickly and with a lot of ease.
And trust me it cooks the vegetables the best. I love roasted vegetables in the air fryer. Also, check out my vegan air fryer recipes here.
If veggies make a large part of your meal, you must try cooking them in the air fryer. I'm sure you will love them for sure. And if you are a beginner, here is my collection of air fryer vegetables for you to try.
Mushrooms are soft and fleshy in texture. In addition, mushrooms contain a lot of water that gets released while sautéing in a pan/ skillet and may result in soggy ones.
But with an air fryer, the mushrooms turn perfectly tender yet juicy. I love the mushrooms more in the air fryer than in any other way of cooking.
It hardly takes 10 - 12 minutes of cooking time plus 5 minutes more for prepping job. It's a simple recipe and doesn't need more effort to make the yummy air fryer roasted mushrooms.
Ingredients You'll Need
Mushrooms - Here I have taken white button mushrooms. Portobello mushrooms also work great for this dish.
Olive oil - This brings a nice flavor to the mushrooms.
Garlic powder - I love the garlicky flavor in mushrooms. Garlic powder does that magic indeed.
Seasonings - I have added Italian seasonings. You can skip the seasoning and simply add salt and pepper to it. Or you may add any other seasonings of your choice. You can also substitute the seasonings with simple soy sauce or gluten-free tamari.
Smoked paprika - This is optional and you may skip this.
Salt & black pepper - to taste
How to make air fryer mushrooms?
Clean the mushrooms of any dirt. Wipe with a clean damp cloth. Slice them to halves or quarters. No need to remove the stems/ stipes.
Transfer to a clean bowl. Add the seasonings followed by a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Toss to coat the mushrooms well. You can also add only salt and pepper but trust me some additional flavors make the mushrooms delicious.
In the meantime, preheat the air fryer at 400 F for 3 minutes.
Next, transfer the seasoned mushrooms to a preheated air fryer basket. Start the air fryer at 400 F for 10 - 12 minutes or till reaches the desired doneness.
Toss the mushrooms with your favorite seasonings, or simply add salt and pepper with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. Cook for the said time and temperature. And you will be ready with a delicious meaty side dish that is plant-based too.
Pro Tips-
Don't wash the mushrooms. Instead, wipe them using a damp cloth to get rid of the dirt, etc.
Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket and ensure they have space for air circulation. Also, the mushrooms shrink in size as they are heated and start to lose moisture. This will create enough space for hot air circulation. But make sure they are arranged in a single layer for even cooking. And no need to shake the basket as well.
Serving Ideas
These air fryer mushrooms are perfectly cooked with moist and juicy bites yet with a little crunch to balance. You can use them as a side dish with any meal or add to your salad. These mushrooms are too yummy and versatile to add to any menu.
Add the mushrooms to your creamy mushroom soup or creamy spinach soup as a topping. The crispy texture brings in a soothing balancing texture in the creamy soups.
This will be a quick addition to any pasta recipes as well. Add the mushrooms to cream cheese pasta, creamy vegan pasta, vegan broccoli pasta, or Cajun pasta, or add to your aglio olio and make mushroom spaghetti.
Add the crunchy bites of air fryer mushrooms to your baked mushroom rice. Or add them to any of the rice recipes here. Add them to Instant Pot Rice Pilaf (Tahari) or any other dishes.
Add them to your quinoa salad with roasted veggies, ramen stir fry, etc
Or enjoy them as a complete light snack as it is. The garlic flavor takes mushrooms to another level of deliciousness.
Storage & Leftover
They stay good for 4 - 5 days when packed and stored properly in an air-tight container in the refrigerator. In the freezer, they may stay good for 2 months. But the fresh mushrooms roasted in the air fryer are the best according to me.
To reheat, transfer the content to an air fryer and heat them for 2 minutes at 400 F. No need to thaw them for a long.
