Cantaloupe agua fresca is a soothing summer drink. Beat the heat this summer with this super fruity drink.

Agua fresca is a Mexican drink. Agua fresca refers to freshwater. And when we add fruit juice to the freshwater it becomes that of the fruity agua fresca. So basically these are fruit juice-infused water along with the freshness of lime and a bit of sweetener.

Difference between agua fresca and fruit juice

At times we dilute the fruit juice with water. But in that case, juice has more concentration of juice and less water. But agua fresca is more of water with a fruity flavor. Sweetener and tangy lime juice or lemon juice may be added to both drinks.

While making juice we may not strain out the pulp but for agua fresca, it has to be pure juice with strained out pulp. So agua fresca is fruit-flavored refreshing water.

Both juices and agua fresca are essential summer drinks. That helps in hydrating our body and is really thirst-quenching. Also along with that the fruit juice or juice-infused water adds nutritional values to our diet or body.

    Cantaloupe Agua Fresca

Agua fresca can be of any fruit flavor. Even I love it in any fruity form. But in summers you will see watermelon and cantaloupes abundant. And these fruits contain 95% of water. So these are my favorite summer fruit. I make agua fresca, lemonades, flavored iced tea, cold soups in summers. Try my cantaloupe gazpacho & watermelon gazpacho soups for summers.

Cantaloupe agua fresca is again fresh water with a flavor of cantaloupe. Lime juice and mint leaves add freshness to the drink.

If you are on any diet or diabetic, you must avoid such drinks as these are sugary and contains a lot of carbs. If you will ask me how much you should drink, I will say in moderation with 1 agua fresca in a week. You can have unsweetened as much as you can. But cut your sugar in order to cut the carb in your diet. You can also add other healthy/low-carb sugar substitutes like stevia to your drink.

What do you need to make cantaloupe agua fresca?

Cantaloupe agua fresca is an easy and simple summer drink with fewer ingredients.

Cantaloupe - This is the hero ingredient. Take a ripe one for the best fruity sweeter pulp. Cantaloupe is also known as musk melon.

Sugar Syrup - I prefer adding sugar syrup as this is a quicker option. And if you are trying with granulated sugar, this will take a lot of time to get dissolved completely to the cold water.

Mint leaves - fresh sprigs of mint leaves add freshness in the drink though we use a few of them for garnish.

Lime - Lime juice is frequent in Mexican cuisine. fresh lime juice adds a tangy flavor and brings more freshness to the drink. However, you can also replace the lime with lemons.

    How to make Sugar Syrup?

Whenever we are making any of the drinks, we tend to add a bit of sweetness to the drink. While we add granulated sugar to cold water for summer drinks, it takes longer to get dissolved.

So the best idea is to make ahead the sugar syrup and chill it. This makes the process so easier and also takes less time to make the drinks.

Making sugar syrup is easy though. Take an equal amount of sugar and water (1:1). Just bring it to a boil and simmer only till sugar dissolves completely. Then remove from heat and cool it completely. Transfer to a glass jar with a lid and refrigerate for future use.

How to Make Cantaloupe Agua Fresca?

Cut the melon into halves. Then either scoop out their pulp or peel of the skin and dice the melon into pieces. Place them in a blender and puree completely.

Now strain out the pulp using a fine-mesh sieve. Press the pulp with help of a spoon to get the maximum of the juice out through the sieve. Now you have a liquid watery juice separated from any chunky pulp.

Now add sugar syrup, lime juice, ice cubes, and some fresh mint leaves. Give them a nice stir. Cantaloupe agua fresca is ready. Serve them chilled.

How long can I store this?

Try to use the agua fresca in 2 days time maximum. As this will not decayed soon but you will not feel that juicy flavor from it after this period.

    Notes

If possible make ahead some ice cubes with the juice only. This will help in maintaining the fruity flavor without diluting it further unlike normal water ice cubes. However, this is optional for better taste.
Make-ahead your sugar syrup and refrigerate. Whenever making such drinks use that sugar syrup.
Adjust the amount of sweetener as per your taste.
You can replace your sugar syrup with stevia and other similar low-carb options for a healthier option.
