Baked sweet potatoes – Oven or air fryer- Which one is your favorite? Make them anyways, these are delicious and easy ones. Well, my favorite is the air fryer for some obvious reasons.
These are great as appetizers, sides, or mains. Also, the air fryer makes it one of the quickest options to bake sweet potatoes. From inside it’s creamy and fluffy with perfectly crispy skin. It’s naturally sweet with so much flavorful, it’s just so delicious.
I always loved my air fryer baked potatoes and instant pot baked potatoes. But I always heard from my audience how they love to make sweet potatoes. I have made it before but never got a chance to share it on the blog. This is the one I’m posting now.
I make baked sweet potatoes many times. At times I make them plain and simple with some butter and parsley over them or I make some loaded ones with some toppings. Mexican toppings go really well with the baked sweet potatoes. Or add plain yogurt, mayonnaise, to the baked sweet potatoes.
Sweet potatoes vs Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are available in many varieties and colors. We get white sweet potatoes abundantly here than the orange/ golden sweet potatoes. Though orange ones contain more nutrients than the white sweet potatoes, the white ones are excellent too when we are making roasted/ baked sweet potatoes. The natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes balance everything, every flavor so nicely.
Sweet potatoes are always better than potatoes when it comes to healthy food options. They are rich in many nutrients, which make them healthy. Sweet potatoes contain less starch and more dietary fiber than regular potatoes. They are the best ones for baked fries or roasted fries. We can reduce the bad effects of high-calorie foods like potatoes by substituting it with low-calorie foods like sweet potatoes.

Ingredients you will need –
Sweet potatoes – these are the main ingredients. Wash and clean the sweet potatoes. Remove any dirt on the surface.
Salt and olive oil – you need to rub the surface with oil and salt to add flavor to it. You can also add any other seasoning if you love it.
For toppings – black beans, corn, salt, paprika, lime juice, garlic powder, onion powder. Butter or mayonnaise.
How to make baked sweet potatoes?
Firstly, preheat your air fryer at 400 F or 200 C for 4 minutes. Rinse the sweet potatoes nicely. Poke it with a fork. Brush the sweet potatoes with olive oil on all sides. Sprinkle it with salt and pepper to taste.
Arrange them in a single layer in an air fryer basket. Air fry for 35 – 40 minutes, toss them after 15 minutes. Bake till the sweet potatoes are cooked till fork tender and crispier skin.
Note – Timing may vary depending on the size and type of the air fryer since not all the air fryers don’t cook equal. The size of the sweet potatoes are important for variation of timings.
Oven Baked sweet potatoes –
Preheat the oven at 400 F or 200 C. Rinse the sweet potatoes and poke them with a fork. Brush the sweet potatoes with olive oil on all sides. Sprinkle it with salt and pepper to taste. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking tray. Bake them for 45 – 50 minutes, or until these are fork-tender.
Make Mexican Bean & Corn Toppings
To make this loaded sweet potato, I’m making Mexican bean and corn. Heat olive oil in a pan. Add drained and rinsed black beans and corn to the pan. Add cumin powder, paprika, lime juice along with 2 tbsp water. Saute for 2 minutes till all spices are nicely coated with beans. Remove once done.
Now add the toppings to the baked potatoes along with some sour cream. Sprinkle some fresh parsley or cilantro leaves.
