Cilantro Dip or cilantro chutney is a classic green sauce or Indian chutney. This dip is vegan and is the best accompaniment for any appetizer.

Cilantro Chutney - Indian Green Chutney
This is a popular Indian chutney recipe. It goes well with all fritters and almost all Indian appetizers, snacks, paratha, etc.
You can make this easily and quickly in just 5 minutes. There is no such difficult recipe for this dipping sauce. Just blend all ingredients in the blender and blend it to a puree or paste. As quick and simple as that.

This chutney recipe is Indian with Indian flavors like cumin seeds and chat masala. But you will find many similar dip recipes in world cuisine. One such name is Zhoug which is a similar spicy cilantro sauce of the Middle East Cuisine. Zhoug is usually served with falafel (chickpea fritters).

How To Make Cilantro Chutney?
Ingredients -
- cilantro leaves - 2 - 3 cups clean and roughly chopped
- mint leaves - 2 - 3 springs (optional)
- green chilies - 3 - 6 depending on the spiciness you prefer
- garlic cloves - 8 - 10
- onion - ยฝ small size onion or shallots roughly diced
- cumin seeds - 1 tsp or ground cumin ยฝ tsp
- salt - as required
- chat masala - ยผ tsp
- lemon juice - ยฝ lemon or 1 - 2 tsp lemon juice
Instructions -
Clean & wash the cilantro leaves properly. Remove the hard stalks. Prep them roughly. Add all ingredients like cilantro, garlic, onion, green chilies, and mint leaves (if adding) together into a blender jar. Add 3 - 4 tbsp water and blend them together in a blender. Season with salt, chat masala & lemon juice.
Serving Ideas For Cilantro Chutney-
- This can be served as a dip or chutney with appetizers/ snacks.
- Use this as a spread on slices of bread for a sandwich. (e.g. chutney sandwich, masala toast sandwich, cheesy potato sandwich).
- Use as a base for green curries.

Storage
Store the cilantro chutney in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for 4 - 6 days. But if you intend to store it, don't add lemon juice as the acidic lemon will make the chutney pale and dull with time.

- 2 - 3 cups cilantro leaves cleans and roughly chopped
- 2 - 3 sprigs mint leaves optional
- ยฝ small onion or 2 shallots
- 6 - 8 green chilies depending the spiciness of chilies and the spicy you need
- 8 - 10 garlic cloves
- 1 tsp cumin seeds or ยฝ tsp cumin powder
- ยฝ tsp salt or as taste
- ยฝ tsp chat masala
- 1 tbsp lemon juice juice of ยฝ medium-sized lemon
Instructions
- Wash and clean cilantro leaves.
- Add cilantro, onion, garlic, green chillies, cuin seeds in a blender.
- Add 2 - 4 tbsp water. (or as required to blend)
- Blend it to a fine paste.
- Once the paste is done, transfer to an air tight container.
- Now add salt, chat masala and lemon juice.
- Stir well mixing all.
- Store in the refrigerator.
