Garlic knots are a quick and easy snack made in an air fryer. These are a convenient and easy way to make bread and are also friendly.

    air fryer garlic knot

Garlic knots make a great vegan appetizer, snack, breakfast, or quick snack. The air fryer makes the recipe easy and fast. For the garlic knots, I use my regular homemade pizza dough. This is easy to make, and the best part is you can customize it with your favorite seasonings for flavor.

The vegan dough is made with yeast, flour, olive oil, and other seasonings. Here, activated yeast helps in the fermentation of the dough and helps make the dough airy - perfect for making bread, pizza, etc.

Vegan Garlic Knots / Air Fryer Garlic Knots

    Air fryer garlic knots

I love to make garlic knots in the air fryer because these are easy and quick. These are my best accompaniments on pizza nights. I also make a batch of these garlic knots whenever I make pizza.

Ingredients you will need for vegan garlic knots-

Flourโ€”The best is all-purpose or refined flour, which gives the best fluffy bread. But this won't be gluten-free. For gluten-free garlic knots, use gluten-free bread flour.

Yeast + Sugar - Yeast is required for fermentation. This, along with sugar and warm water, helps make the dough airy and light.

Seasoningsโ€”Italian seasonings and some fresh garlic and herbs coating it after it's shaped and half-baked improve its taste.

Olive oilโ€”Olive oil makes the knots fluffier and lighter. You can also use vegan butter, but I strongly recommend olive oil for the knots or pizza dough.

Instructions to make the garlic knots -

    Prepare the dough

Put yeast and sugar in a small bowl. Add warm water to activate the yeast. Let it rest for 10 - 15 minutes until a foamy layer forms on top. This shows that the yeast has been activated nicely.

**Note - Take fresh yeast otherwise the dough won't ferment at all no matter how long you keep this..

Now add flour and salt. Mix the flour and yeast water with a spatula until well combined. Then, knead it gently for 4 - 5 minutes. Now grease the bowl with oil and rub a little oil on the dough.

Cover the dough with a damp cloth or cling wrap and let it rest for 1 hour in a warm place. You can also ferment the dough in the Instant Pot.

Check after 1 hour if the dough is fermented. Dust the surface with flour. Take out the dough and knead it for two minutes. Then divide into 16 equal roundels of equal size. Now, take a ball and roll it into a log shape or strands of ยผ inch thickness. Roll it smooth using your palms and fingers only. Make a knot out of the log.

Season and bake in the air fryer

Preheat the air fryer to 390/ 400 F for 4 minutes. Meanwhile, put olive oil in a small bowl. Add salt, minced garlic, finely chopped herbs, or dried herbs.

Now, place the shaped knots in the air fryer basket. Brush them lightly with the seasonings and oil mix (or vegan butter or butter). Start the air fryer at 355 F (180 C) for 10 minutes or until they turn golden brown.

Once the knots are done, brush them again with the seasoning and herb mix and butter/vegan butter/ olive oil mix. It's optional, but it makes the knots more flavorful.

How do you store the vegan garlic knots?

Store the vegan garlic knots in a sealed container so they don't dry out too quickly when left at room temperature for hours/days. It can stay good for up to 2 days at room temperature. When sealed and stored properly, you can refrigerate for 4 - 5 days. When ready to eat, use your air fryer or microwave to reheat the garlic knots.

Can I freeze the garlic knots?

You can freeze the knot dough. When required, remove it from the freezer. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator. Then, place it in the air fryer and bake as instructed. To freeze, first, shape the dough into knots. Place them on a baking tray and place them open inside the freezer for 30 minutes. Dust with flour, place the knots inside a ziplock bag and seal. Store for up to 2 months.

How long does it stay good?

You can keep the garlic knots fresh for two days at room temperature, but keep them sealed in a bread box or other airtight container. You can also refrigerate them and reheat them whenever required.

    Notes

** Time mentioned above doesn't include the fermentation time which may be 30 - 60 minutes depending on the weather, the temperature outside, and the method of fermentation.
The store-bought dough also works well for the recipe. And reduces the extra effort of making the dough.ย
You may use fresh herbs or dries herbs to season the garlic knots.
