Thai Sweet & Chilli Sauce Dip
This Thai Sweet & Chilli Sauce is one of the best dip which complements the snacks menu. This is a healthier version of the regular store brought ones.
I have used jaggery instead of white sugar to give the dip a healthier twist and in fact I loved this version even more. This is vegetarian one and hence replaced fish sauce with soy sauce. Or even skip that also. The main ingredient in this recipe are rice vinegar (or white vinegar), garlic, chillies, jaggery (or white sugar).
Some people prepare this with honey as natural sweetener. I have used powdered dry Kashmiri red chillies. Trust me they are super spicy and hot. So add little while making the sauce. In the end if you want more spice you can anyways add some more to it. You can also add ready made chilli paste available in market.
Its very easy and takes few minutes to prepare this dip. You can control the amount of sweetness and heat. Its a superb condiment which complements Thai dishes. It also goes well with chicken, fish and other sea foods.
Lets make this easy dip.
Thai Sweet & Chilli Sauce Dip
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 3/4 cup rice vinegar or white vinegar
- 4 tbsp jaggery
- 1 tsp powdered dry red chilli
- 4 garlic cloves
- 1 tbsp corn starch
- 1/2 tsp soy sauce optional or take 1 pinch of salt
Instructions
- Add all ingredients in a saucepan (except corn starch). Simmer on medium heat for 5 minutes till jaggery melts into the sauce.
- Add 1 tbsp corn starch with 1 tbsp water. Mix well. Add this mixture to the boiling sauce and simmer till desired consistency arrives. Don't make very thick as after cooling the corn starch will also give thicker consistency to the sauce.
- Keep stirring frequently to avoid burning at the bottom. If it thickens more add a little extra water.
- Remove from heat and taste the spicy, sour and sweetness of the sauce. Add chillies and jaggery if required and give it a boil.
