Easy Air Fryer French Fries - Crispy, less oil, quicker than baking. When you crave some french fries, you don't need to go to any outlet. You can enjoy them at home in just a few minutes and grab them guilt-free with your homemade air fryer French fries.

Air Fryer French Fries are a great addition to your breakfast sandwiches or burgers. These are my favorite appetizers though. I love these French fries, in whatever way they are made. But these air fryer fries are too good.

French fries are normally the potato appetizers that are soft inside with a crunchy outside. Whenever I don't get time I make frozen French fries in air fryer. But given an option to choose the best I will choose these French fries that I ll make from scratch.

Also, this is the opinion of my family members. You may have a different opinion and choice for some reason. Please let me know below in the comments which is your favorite french fries in the air fryer, from scratch or frozen?

You can also make a healthier version of this by just replacing potato with sweet potatoes. Those are also too yummy and less carb than potatoes.

    Preparation

    Step - 1 - Clean the potatoes

Take big sized potatoes for longer fries. However medium to large size are best for the fries. You don't need to take out the skin to make the fries. I leave them on. Just scrub out and clean nicely to get rid of any dust or sand.

Step - 2 - Cut into finger shaped fries

Cut the potato vertically into finger shapes of approximately 1/2 inch or less thick. Try to cut them even in size for perfect crispiness. We actually do guesswork while cutting the fries. Thinner ones will be crispier without any softness within. So cut as per your choice.

Step - 3 - Soak in chilled water

This is important. Soaking potatoes in chilled water. When we soak potatoes (after cutting) it removes excess starch from the potatoes. This helps in making the potato dishes (such as French fries, wedges, potato chips) crispy. Soak them for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Step - 4 - Preheat the air fryer

Preheat the air fryer at 400 F for 5 minutes. This is not compulsory, but it definitely reduces the cooking time. So preheating ensures required high temperature from the beginning.

However, if your brand says it doesn't require preheating, skip this step.

    Step - 5 - Air-fry the fries

    This is the final step.

Remove the French fries from water and place them on a dry plate or kitchen towel. With help of another clean kitchen napkin or paper towel dry the fries.

Spray some oil on it. Then season with salt, pepper, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder. These are my specific seasoning for the French fries. You can add other flavors to it too. Give them a nice mix.

Now take out the basket and spray some oil to grease. Place the seasoned fries on the basket. Arrange them in 1 layer allowing space for even cooking and crispy sides.

Now start the air fryer at 400 F (200C) for 15 minutes. If you have cut the fries little thinner, then set timer at 10 minutes. If you feel it needs a little more crispiness, increase the timer for 2 minutes more.

Thick cut fries - Check and flip the fries at 8 minutes mark. Then check at 12 minutes. Cook for the time mentioned above (15 minutes). If you need more crisp and brownish, air fry for another 2 minutes checking in between.

Thin cut fries - Flip at 6 minutes mark. Then at 8 minutes and 10 minutes. If you need them to be more crisp and brown, increase the timer 2 minutes more or till reached desired crisp. Keep an eye else it may get overcooked and burn quickly.

Extra Tip for Perfect Air fryer French Fries

    Cut fries into equal size.

After cutting, wash and soak in chilled water for minimum 30 minutes. This helps in making the fries crispy.

You can add other seasonings too.

Arrange the fries in a single layer without overlapping with each other. Make in batches if making in large quantity.

Every air fryer cooks differently. But standard time varies at 10 - 15 minutes. So keep an eye on them by checking at intervals.

If making in batches, reduce the timer after the first batch as it will heat up things quicker than the first batch.
