Sweet Sattu & Banana Porridge for Toddlers

Indian Sattu is a powdered form of roasted chickpeas. Black chickpeas (Kala Chana) are a rich source of protein and fiber. These are some of the super-foods and packed with vitamins and minerals. It has numerous health benefits.

This recipe is made from roasted black chickpeas. They are readily available on the market. So you can buy roasted ones and grind them to a fine powder and store them for further use. Else if you want to make it even easier, these are readily available in the local market.

Sattu is a popular dish of Bihar, Jharkhand, MP, UP, Kolkatta, Odisha. This is made from roasted pulses or grams. It can be made from roasted Bengal grams or roasted chickpeas. Some people make this from the mixture of Bengal gram and chickpeas. The ingredients may vary too.

However, you can also make your own sattu powder at home. The ingredients I use are roasted chickpeas (400g), roasted whole wheat (150g), a fistful of peanuts (50g), and a fistful of flattened rice. You can also add 1 tbsp of cashew nuts, 1 tbsp blanched almonds, 1 tbsp walnuts. But again dry fruits are optional. Dry roast all ingredients. Cool them totally and then blend to a fine paste using a high-speed blender. The quantity of the ingredients is approximate amounts. You can customize your own sattu.

This is one of the best food for growing kids. To some, it might not be very tasty, but it's a storehouse of vitamins and minerals.

    Benefits of Sattu:

    1. High on insoluble fiber. Hence good for intestine and gut health.
    2. Low on glycemic index. And beneficial for diabetic patients.
    3. High in Iron, Manganese, Magnesium & Low in Sodium.
    4. High in protein and helps in growth of muscle mass.

Well, if you have roasted and powdered sattu, then no further cooking is required to make this porridge. However this recipe
