Split Urad Dal Recipe/ Split Black Gram Lentils Soup

Split Urad Dal Recipe/ Split Black Gram Lentils Soup

Urad Dal or Black Gram lentils are normally used in the famous punjabi cuisine Dal Makhani. But the dal used in that recipe is whole black gram lentils. In my version of dal makhani on this website, I have taken whole red lentils (whole masoor dal)  instead of black grams.

This dal is made from split black gram but I have used the same process of dal makhani with out kidney beans. Kidney beans are my favorite recipe. Read Punjabi Rajma Masala recipe here.

The speciality of lentils is that they are so versatile and you can make them in what ever way you want. They will still complete the menu. I personally make sure to make different types of dal at home. My kid doesn’t like dal. So I make dal paratha for him. There are high source of protein and you can not skip them from your meal for a healthy diet.

So lets make this easy urad dal in less than 30 minutes time span. To fasten the cooking process follow my ready to use curry paste.

Why I mention this curry paste recipe in all gravy recipe is one thing that this is a basic curry paste used for almost every kitchen for everyday recipes especially in North Indian Cuisine. Also it will save almost 15 minutes of your cooking time. I follow this method to save time. You can anyways prepare that during your free time and store for 10 days in refrigerator. I call this as smart cooking.
